British Tamil entrepreneur-Founder & Chairman of Lyca Productions Dr.,Subaskaran Allirajah is celebrating his birthday on Monday. The Chennai based production house is well-known for producing India’s most expensive movie 2.0. He loved watching Tamil films during his younger days, and this inspired him to start Lyca Productions in 2014. Lyca Productions is a part of Lyca Group headquartered on the banks of Thames.
The company launched with Kaththi featuring actor Vijay, followed by Vijay Sethupathi’s Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. Both films did decently well at the box office. But 2.0,a sequel to Rajinikanth’s Robot was Subaskaran’s most ambitious venture. He even tried to rope in Arnold Schwarzenegger to act in2.0. The movie was produced on a budget of Rs.570 crore and the box office collected over Rs.800 crore. This 2010 film received global applause for its visual effects.
The movie changed the landscape of Tamil movie industry. It motivated directors to go bigger on graphics, visuals, stunts, and more. After the success of 2.0, Lyca has produced several big budget films. But the company’s contributions does not stop with that. Lyca has contributed to relief funds during Cyclone Gaja, 2015 Chennai floods, and 2018 Kerala floods.
Apart from bankrolling good quality films, Subaskaran runs his family’s telecom, healthcare, financial services, media and entertainment conglomerate in the U.K. He is also an ardent philanthropist who supports displaced immigrant communities through Gnanam Foundations that he set up with his wife and mother. Zee Cine Awards recently honoured him with the “Sigaram Thotta Thamizhan” award for his lifelong accomplishments.
We wish Dr.Subaskaran Allirajah many more successfully joyous years ahead.
